Frequently Asked Questions

What is Weather Tree?

The Weather Tree is a poster depicting a tree with twelve branches to represent the months of the year and with a leaf for every day of the year.

Colours are chosen to represent different weather types or mood and a leaf is coloured in each day with the appropriate colour. At the end of the year you will have a unique, lasting and individual record of the weather in your locality or your mood changes throughout the year.

The poster dimensions are 90cm x 64cm.

Who is it for?

The Weather Tree is an ideal gift for all ages from pre-school children to the elderly.

You may wish to track the weather exclusively, or to map your personal journey through well-being. You may find that recording the weather outside can correlate with your internal ‘weather’ and this gives rise to moments of personal insight that help you lead a more mindful existence.

What’s the best way to colour the leaves?

We use high quality 160gsm, 100% recycled paper, which has a smooth surface that absorbs many types of ink. It is easily coloured in using felt tip pens, wax crayons, colouring pencils or water colour paints.

Can I customize my Weather Tree?

Sure. Further leaves can be added to the key to give a more detailed breakdown of weather types.

How detailed should I be with categorizing the weather?

That’s up to you, but we suggest you start simple. For instance your 7 weather types might include sunshine, cloud, rain, snow, fog, wind and storm.

Details such as frost, hail, thunder etc. can be recorded by outlining the leaf in another colour, while maximum and minimum temperatures can be written next to or inside each leaf.

Other creative categories we’ve seen include using colours or outlines to record when the observer is ‘Away from home’, or the temperature exceeds 30C and even rainfall levels.

Do I have to start the tree on 1 January?

Not at all. The poster can be started on any of the year and will be complete one year later. Customers who do choose to begin at the start each year, tend place their order before Christmas - also as a way to gift posters to family and friends.

How do you suggest I use the Weather Tree as a mood chart?

We suggest using the mood scale 1 to 7, where 1 is worst and 7 is best.

You may also wish to record the number of hours’ sleep you got the night before, by noting this in each leaf.

Why isn’t there a digital version of the Weather Tree, like an app?

It’s precisely in response to our growing dependence on electronic gadgets and digital information sources that a poster is needed. The old ‘pen and paper’ technology is not only 100% reliable, it doesn’t need plugging in, doesn’t show you adverts in the margins and won’t need upgrading every few months.

All you need to remember, is to purchase your next poster in time for the New Year and we have a (digital - eek!) solution for that - simply join our mailing list and we’ll send you a reminder to place your order in October each year.

My purchase is a gift - how do I submit recipient address details?

You can enter a shipping address at check out. If this is different to your billing address, you’ll have the opportunity to enter that too.
